Well, I have finally decided to join the 21st Century and create a blog. I only recently became aware of these and have enjoyed reading a few blogs on a regular basis. One blog that I accidently came across but have thoroughly enjoyed is: http://viewfromthejeep.blogspot.com/. Check it out if you get a chance. The thought of creating a blog for myself has been bouncing around in my head but I just haven't really known what to say or whether anyone would even be interested in what I had to say. As the New Year approached, I figured that I would start it out by creating and posting my first blog on 1/1/06. Not sure how often I will get to update it, but I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with this anyways. First, let me say a few words about me. My name is Shane Wilson and I live in Alexandria, VA. I am 34 (turning 35 later this year) and am happily partnered to a wonderful man, Bill. I hail orinigally from the deep south (Alabama and Georgia) and actually met Bill in Montgomery, AL back in 1998. For me, it was one of those meetings where I knew that he was going to be very important person in my life. I just didn't fully realize at that time exactly how important. Over the next 10 months our relationship began to grow and it became apparant to both of us that we wanted to continue down life's road together. Bill was in Montgomery temporarily and was set to move the Washington DC area. He ended up asking me if I would like to move with him and I of course did. We have been in the DC area now for over 6 years and it's had it's ups and downs, but overall things have went well. Professionally, the move to the DC area was one that was very good for me. I have been working with the same company since moving here and overall enjoy what I am doing. Like any job, there are things that bother me, but I also know that no job is going to be perfect. I have been able to greatly grow professionally and have also been able to travel and do things that I would never have done in my job in Montgomery, AL. I am also one semester away from completing a Masters of Science degree. This has been something I have been working towards since the end of 2003 and am glad that it is almost over. I'm hoping that this degree will help open even more doors for me in the near future. What are some things that I enjoy? Well, I love to go to the movies (we still have a Friday movie date night even after 7 years). I also like to read sci-fi/fantasty, comics, suspense thrillers, and biographies. I enjoy watching the following TV shows:
- Amazing Race
- Battlestar Galactica (this is one of the best Sci-Fi shows ever)
- Stargate: Atlantis
- Without a Trace
I also enjoy working out, which has been beneficial to me in many ways. It's nice to see the results when you dedicate yourself to it.
Some of my goals for 2006:
- Gain 20lbs in muscle;
- Finish writing a novel that I have been working on for a while;
- Learn more Spanish;
- Have a better outlook on life; and
- be more patient in all areas of my life
Well, I guess that is enough out of me for now. I am attaching a picture below which was recently taken. Happy New Year to everone!
